PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management lifted the Air Quality Alert on Friday morning.

Health officials said as of 10:30 a.m., the wildfire smoke plume from Canada had moved offshore south of the New England coastline.

The smoke lingers in parts of Rhode Island, but it's not expected to reach unhealthy readings.

Officials said visibility has significantly improved.

The department first issued the alert on Tuesday as the smoke from the wildfires made its way down the East Coast.

Good air quality is predicted for Saturday, according to officials. The quality may go to a moderate level on Sunday.

The department posted an air quality forecast map for the public to check before heading out.
